N.Z. Students Can Use Txt Speak on Tests
My goodness!!! Apparently some people are actually allowing text speak to appear on tests without penalty! What's this world coming to???
If I was grading a paper and saw text speak, I would make them rewrite theentire paper! (Man, students would hate me.)

I would too. If you are not putting enough effort into this paper to write it correctly I doubt you put enough thought in it to make it good.

Yeah, I agree. It's like our language is de-evolving. If and when the human race disappears from the face of the earth, I hope something more than a cave scrawling proclaiming "OMG WTF LOL!" will be left of us.

Oh my gosh, I'm glad I'm not a teacher in NZ. I can't even stand text speak on the internet, more less in the class room. Those poor teachers; I feel bad for them. XD
Our teachers encourage us to use short cuts, or 'text speak' while taking notes, but we're not allowed to use them on tests, essays, or anything else formal.
Oh what is this world coming to? :[ I won't let my children use text speak. I don't even use text speak when texting, I write everything out. =P

WAIT!?!?!? WHAT?!?!?! They encourage them to use text speak as short hand! What is this world coming to. If you say it's okay in class that will only make them think that it will also be okay on the tests.
I do the exact same thing Cherity it can get annoying writing everything out, but it is better than looking like an idoit writing in "text speak".

I have to spell everything out, but that might be because I'm just a grammar/spelling freak. I was talking to one of my instructors here, and he said that he finds text talk in student papers all the time (which he counts off for, I'm sure).

I hope so, but my room mate (really a suite mate since I have my own room) believes other wise. She thinks that how we write should change as the times change. I can't understand it. I guess I was just raised to know how to write,

So she believes our language should evolve into text talk? All text talk is is CRAP. It's helpful, sure, and I've used it, but proper writing should not include text talk. Period.

The hell... I agree. I hate it, when your very adorable and ignorant classmate has to pop in text talk. I get so angry. It's like no one has respect for English anymore.

It seems people who speak English have less and less respect for it these days. Some people are just too lazy. They want everything easy. No learning. (But who doesn't want things to be easy? Just have to know when things have to be difficult.)
